Murray Hazen Dunnett
1930-2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Murray
Hazen Dunnett at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday. Born
in Whitney, NB, eldest child of the late William and Estella (Lobban)
Dunnett and husband of Helen (Ullock) Dunnett.
Family was deeply important to Murray; each member held a
special place in his heart. He loved a good joke or prank and everyone
enjoyed his quick wit! Besides spending time with his family and
friends, he enjoyed fishing – if only to catch weeds,
camping, supporting his family in their many choices of entertainment,
playing cards, golfing, dancing, and building anything … with enough
screws and nails to do the job twice.
A gentle and loving man with a large heart and helpful hands,
Murray was happiest when he was doing something for others –
whether family, friends, or the community at large. He was a
member of the Gentle Shepherd Community Church, United Commercial
Travelers (UCT), Shriners, and Miramichi Lodge.
Besides his loving wife of almost 60 years, Murray is
survived by his three daughters, Pamela Hamilton, Paula Dunnett, both
of Fredericton, NB, and Penny Granter (Tim) of Hanwell, NB; five
grandchildren, Danica Hamilton of Ottawa, ON, Kyle Hamilton (Julie
Bishop) of London, ON, Jennifer Hamilton (Dan Carter) of Toronto, ON,
Tyler Granter (Julia Hebert) of Truro, NS, and Courtney Granter
(Mitchell Donohue) of Halifax, NS; his siblings, Gregory Dunnett
(Rosalie) of Cambridge Narrows, NB, Weldon Dunnett of Whitney, NB,
Eleanor Stewart of Thunder Bay, ON, and Thelma Stewart (Hayward) of
Fredericton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law; son
Wayne Murray Dunnett, son-in-law Carman Hamilton, grandson Derek
Hamilton; sisters, Ruby Whitney and Frances Dunnett, and several
sisters and brothers-in-law – including, Elizabeth (Stewart)
Dunnett, Edwin Stewart and Sterling Whitney; nephew Stewart Dunnett
and nieces Frances Steen and Darlene Whitney.
There will be no visitation by request. The Memorial Service
will be held on Sunday, February 5, at Gentle Shepherd Community
Church (370 Grandame Street, Fredericton, NB) at 3:00 pm. Reverend
Doctor Bradley Little and Pastor Scott Kohler will be officiating.
Interment will be at the Miramichi Cemetery at a later
date.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society,
NB Lung Association, Fredericton Hospice Adult Day Centre, or charity
of choice.
The family requests no flowers, please, due to
allergies.
