August 8, 1935 to May 4, 2017
Entered into eternal rest on May 4, 2017 Superintendent Murray Robert Evans, age 81, with his loving family by his side. Murray was predeceased by his parents Stuart and May Evans, his sister Alice, and his brother Vincent (Mary). Leaving behind with beautiful memories, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Stella (nee: Whitten); son David (Paula Hickey) and granddaughter Leighanne Evans; daughter Janine (David Lacey) and grandchildren Devin, Maria, Kieran and Amelia Lacey; sister in-law Marguerite Weir, and brothers in-law Bishop Leonard Whitten (June), Ronald Whitten (Gertrude) and Victor Whitten. Murray retired from the RCMP in 1990, following 37 years of service throughout Newfoundland and Labrador as well as Ottawa. Murray was a life member of the RCMP Veterans Association and the St. John’s Lions Club. Murray lived his life in the service of others, volunteering with organizations such as the CNIB, Habitat for Humanity, MS society and the former Hoyles Escasoni Home, and was an active member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Drs. Mark Stefanelli , Paul Jackman and Paul Heneghan . We are especially grateful for the exemplary and compassionate care of the nursing staff of 5 East at St Clare’s Mercy Hospital. Visitation will be at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Hamilton Ave. on Saturday May 6, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm, and on Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service to be held at Mark’ Anglican Church, 203 Logy Bay Road, St. John’s, on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Murray’s memory may be made to St. Mark’s Anglican Church www.stmarksanglican.ca or Emmaus House Food Bank www.michaelmas.ca.
