Obituary of Milton WRIGHT
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Milt Wright, treasured husband, father, son, brother and friend. Milt was born in Toronto, Ontario, elder son of Milton John Wright and Elizabeth Anne Jennings. He grew up in numerous locations across Canada, including several towns in southern Ontario, as well as Regina, Calgary, and Edmonton. Milt earned his B.A. and M.A. from McMaster University and undertook Ph.D. studies in Archaeology at Simon Fraser University. From 1981-1995, he worked for the Archaeological Survey of Alberta and the Provincial Museum of Alberta in Edmonton. Following a move to Sooke, BC in 1995, Milt held a variety of positions in the BC public service, working mainly in aboriginal relations and reconciliation until his retirement in 2014. He worked closely with the BC Métis Nation for many years and was honoured to have been awarded the Order of The Sash in 2006. He also gave his time as a Scientist in the Schools, teaching children about archaeology in schools across the province. Milt was an enthusiastic volunteer with several Sooke organizations, including the Food Bank, Figure Skating Club, Community Choir, and Fine Arts Show. He was also a long-time blood donor with over 65 donations to his credit. He spent many years expertly restoring his 1959 MGA and became an avid member of the Old English Car Club of BC and the MG Club of Victoria.
Milt will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his wife Jean, daughters Caitlin and Brianna (Ryan), mother Bettie, brother Jim (Liz), sister-in-law Margaret, nephews Stephen, Derrick, Brett (Debbie) and Cameron (Shirley), as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
A celebration of Milt’s life will be held on December 8, 2017 at 2:30 pm at the Baumann Centre, 925 Balmoral Rd., Victoria, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Milt’s memory may be made to the Sooke Food Bank, BC Cancer Agency, or any Métis or First Nations youth education program.
