Obituary for Mike Husak
Mike Husak died peacefully surrounded by family on December 5, 2016, at the age of 89 years.
Born in Winnipeg, he was raised and lived the majority of his life in Gordon, Manitoba. Mike worked for CN rail as a trackman and heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1986 after 42 years of service. He promptly took another job for the R.M of Rosser as grader operator and continued working an additional 12 years.
Mike married the love of his life, Joyce Mills in 1953. They were blessed with three children, Maureen, Stan and Curtis. As a railroad family, there were frequent moves early on, eventually settling in Gordon. Mike was known for his love of trains and anything railway, especially CN. He was a Prairie Dog Central enthusiast, and ensured his children and grandchildren, rode it or was there to wave as it passed by every summer. He loved crib and was always up for a game and chuckled as he told everyone he was the Regional Interlake champion. He was also an avid gardener, who shared his produce with family, friends and neighbours. Eventually, Mike moved to Lion’s manor in Stonewall. When his health deteriorated, he moved closer to family in Swan River where he resided until is passing. Mike spent his last year at the Swan Valley Lodge where he continued to enjoy, singing of hymns, bingo and the baking.
Mike was predeceased by his daughter Maureen in 1966 and his wife of 47 years, Joyce in 2000. Also predeceasing Mike were his parents, John and Teenie, his brothers Walter (Joy) and Fred (Pauline), sister Ann (Charlie). Mike is survived by his sons, Stan (Ada) and Curtis (Coralee), grandchildren Megan and Alex (Megan), great-grandson Bowen. He is also survived by his brothers Bill (Janice) and Peter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
