Obituary of Michael Moran
Michael Victor Moran
July 11, 1918 – November 16, 2017
Michael Victor Moran passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the age of 99 years.
Victor was born in Trochu, the third of 6 children born to William and Clara Moran. He attended the Hogadone “one room” School and the Trochu School. At the age of 9, Victor contracted Polio requiring him to stay in Edmonton for several months receiving care. This never affected his desire to achieve his goals. Following school he pursued his passion for farming. He also spent some time working near Sundre at the saw mill and trucking up north. He told many stories about his adventures encountered along the Mackenzie Highway.
In 1953 he married Irene Ruth Schwartzenberger and celebrated 51 years of marriage before Irene’s passing in 2004. They settled on the Moran homestead where they raised seven children: Joseph, Marlene, William, Michael, Theresa, Carol and Dannel.
Being an innovative farmer, Victor was self-taught and eager to learn the skills necessary to achieve a successful farming business. His natural understanding of mechanics and his ability to apply this knowledge was an asset to the farm. For Victor there was only the correct way to accomplish a job, no matter the effort required. He continued to operate farm equipment until the age of 91, still contributing to his farm’s success. To many he will be remembered as “The Beef Jerky Man”.
He travelled countless miles taking his children to hockey, baseball, gymkhana and 4-H. Victor also spent time managing hockey and coaching baseball teams. He was a very big supporter of minor sports. Victor enjoyed watching sports, square dancing, attending rodeos, fishing and family gatherings.
Victor was a man who lived by his faith. This faith was the foundation of his strength of character and his compassion for humanity. His generosity in helping others was ever present throughout his life, whether helping family, friends, neighbors or others in need.
Victor is lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Joe (Laura) Moran – Andrea Moran-Hale (Kurt Parker), Lucas Parker, Owen Parker; Anthony Moran (Dawn Villeneuve), Reagan Villeneuve, Jakob Bielskis, Jaxon Bielskis; Tiffany (Jason) Nixon, Marcus, Chyanne, Austin; Josh Ross, Ethan, Izabella; Marlene Moran – Brad (Thalia) Hibbs, Kiana, Harrison, Thomas; Chastan (Shanda) Hibbs, Carter, Wynne; Brandon (Tanya) Hibbs, James, Emmett; Willie (Joanne) Moran – Lance (Jessica) Moran, Will, Harris, George; Kelsey Moran; Michael (Fay) Moran – Brock Moran (Heidi Cowan), Eden Cowan, Marlie Cowan, Jax Moran, Draven Moran; Nicole Moran (John Hillson); Theresa Clermont – Derek Clermont; Cody (Nicole) Clermont, Ethan, Ava; Shaynen Clermont; Mitchell Clermont; Carol (Bill) Havell – Jared Havell, Aislyn Havell; Dannel (Marion) Moran; his sister Irene Maguire; his sister-in-law Loretta Moran and numerous inlaws, nieces and nephews.
