Michael Joseph Darrah
1946-2016
The family of Michael Joseph Darrah announces his passing on
December 6th, 2016 at Fredericton Hospice House. He passed away
peacefully while surrounded by his loving family. Born on the 21st of
June 1946 in Saint John NB, he was the youngest son of the late
Patrick Dolan Darrah and Kathleen Mary (Driscoll)
Darrah.
Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years Christina, sons,
Kevin (Melanie), and Matthew (Sarah); grandchildren Lauren, Jack and
Samuel, all of Fredericton. Brother, Patrick (Sheila) Darrah
of Saint John, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his
parents, Michael, was predeceased by his sister Marlene
O’Brien.
Michael was an extremely proud employee of NB Power of which
he was employed for 31 years. He began his career at Point Lepreau as
a Contract Administrator and held various positions over the years
finally retiring as Fixed Asset Administrator of NB Power Holding
Company, providing support to all operating
companies.
What many of you don’t know is that Michael was
also a part time taxi driver. He proudly spent many hours
carting around his family to their daily activities and being an
active spectator at the many sporting events that involved his
boys. Michael took great joy in coaching Youth Basketball in
his sons early years.
Faith was very important to him; in earlier years he was
actively involved in St. Dunstan’s Church as a Liturgical
minister and Sunday school teacher.
The family is thankful to Dr. Sainz & Dr. Paulin and
the staff & volunteers of Hospice House in caring for Michael
in his final days. A special thanks to Dr. Thomas Barry for the many
years of care and support for Michael and family.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 9th, 2016 from 4:00
– 7:00 pm at McAdam’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass
will be held Saturday, December 10th at 3:00 pm at St.
Dunstan’s Catholic Church with a reception to follow. For
those who wish, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to
Hospice House or Muscular Dystrophy in lieu of flowers.
