Michael Andrew Letersky – 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful father, Michael Andrew Letersky on December 9, 2016 at the age of 95 years.
Dad was born in Delph, AB on November 27, 1921. As a young man he attended the Edmonton Normal School and taught children in a one room schoolhouse in Crooked Creek, AB. After serving four years in the RCAF, he earned his BA in Psychology at the U of A and enjoyed a successful career with the Alberta Government in Corrections, retiring In 1988 as Director of Temporary Absence in Edmonton. His strong community sense was evident by his 60 year involvement with the South Edmonton Lions Club and his 40 year volunteer service at St. Basil’s Parish banquet facility doing what he did best in the kitchen – washing pots! He was happily married for 62 years to the love of his life, Ollie, who went on ahead of him in 2011 and has passed the brightest of torches to his children, Ellie (Michael) Bodnaruk, Wayne (Debbie) Letersky, Carrie (Chris) Nall, Dawne (Tony) Tripodi and Laurie (Dale) Miller; thirteen cherished grandchildren; their partners; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Evison Carefoot, Gordon Hodgson, and Boris Shewchuk; and sister-in-law, Anne Billas; as well as his wonderful nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Kipnes Centre for their excellent care of Dad for the past five years. Special thanks also to Theresa from Homecare by Angels and to Ruby Carey for spending time with Dad and appreciating his very special qualities.
Funeral Service Tuesday, December 20 at 11:00 am at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7007 – 109 Street, Edmonton with a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Christmas Bureau, 4230 – 118 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5W 1A4.
