Meta Ellen McQuarrie – 2016

Meta passed away peacefully the morning of November 28, 2016 at Age Care, Midnapore in Calgary, AB at the age of 94.
Meta was born May 27, 1922, in Yorkton, SK. There she met E. Alexander McQuarrie. The couple were married at the bride’s family home on September 29, 1945 upon Alex’s return from WWII. Alex was in the RCAF and returned an Ex-POW after being shot down over France. Meta would knit sweaters which she sent in care packages along with numerous letters for him. During that time she worked at the Hudson Bay Company.
They resided in Fort Frances, ON, Thunder Bay, ON, Carmen Man, MB and finally Calgary, AB with a few years in between in Okotoks, AB.
Meta was predeceased by Alex on September 25, 2007 just a few days short of their 62 anniversary. Meta is survived by her daughter Catherine M. Lyness (Dennis Wilson); grandsons Kelly A. Lyness (Anna and son Nolan), Jesse T. Lyness (Melissa and daughter Karter) and Andrew A. Lyness.
Meta will be remembered as a great cook, baker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, attentive hostess and the life of the party.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Meta may be made to the Alzheimer Society (www.alzheimer.ca)
A Celebration of Life will be set at a later date.
