July 17, 1947 – April 25, 2017
Merry Dawn Elda Robertson (Carr), of Sylvan Lake, AB, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2017 at the Red Deer Hospice, at age 69. She was born in Cutknife, Saskatchewan to Clifford and Theodora Carr on July 17, 1947 and was the youngest of 4 children.
Merry Dawn was predeceased in death by her parents, and three brothers: George Carr, Ralph Carr and Bert Carr.
Her elementary school years were spent in the small town of Mirror, AB and upon moving to Lacombe she went on to complete her junior and senior high school. After graduating from high school in 1965 she completed a Bachelor of Education certificate at the University of Calgary in 1968.
She met her husband Morris Robertson just as he was starting his career at the Royal Bank in 1962 as they lived across the alley from each other. After several years of courtship they were married in Lacombe on August 1st, 1970.
After teaching for several years in various locations she decided to stay home and raise their three sons, Greg, Brent and Stephen. In 1989 she returned to the University of Calgary to obtain her Bachelor of Education degree.
Merry Dawn loved teaching and will remembered as a bright, shinning light in the various community schools and churches she was a part of.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 1st, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, 5005 C & E Trail, Lacombe, AB with Reverends Chris Roth and Rilla Sommerville as officiates. Burial will follow at Lacombe Cemetery. Following the burial family and friends are welcome to attend a small lunch back at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Red Deer Hospice.
