McEwen, Berniece

Berniece McEwen – of Route 3 Monkton, passed away surrounded by the love of her family, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at the age of 78. Berniece was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Monkton. She enjoyed knitting and reading and was a Monkton Wildcat, Monkton Muskrats, Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jay fan. She worked for many years at the former Mary’s Truck Stop in Monkton. Berniece lovingly supported her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in whatever endeavor they undertook.
Beloved wife of Doug McEwen whom she married in 1958. Loving mother of Brian, Shirley Verhoeve (Rob), Janice Stahlke (Greg), Dennis (Mary Lynn), Colleen McEwen. Special grandma of Brianne (Travis), Heather (Ryan), Jason (Nicci), Janelle (Jordan), Kristen, Taylor, Erin, Quintin (Rachel), Kyla, Brooklynn and great grandma of Everly, Carson, Brady, Harper, Dylan, Mckenna and Willa. Cherished daughter of Olive (Osborn) and the late Edwin Hoppenrath. Dear sister of Doris McLean (Ron) and Roger Hoppenrath (Angie) and sister-in-law of Marie Brohart (Vern), Joyce McLaughlin, Roy McEwen (Joan) and Marj McEwen. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her son Bruce in infancy, her brother Eldon Hoppenrath and brother-in-law Barry McEwen.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Thursday April 6 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Berniece’s life will be held at the Elma Logan Recreation Complex, Monkton (Arena Floor) on Friday April 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Marc Fraser officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
