May Marguerite Davis – 1921 – 2017

Obituary for May Davis
A long and productive life came to a peaceful end on August 2 when May Davis, a long-time resident of Naicam, passed away at Birchview Home in Birch Hills.
May Marguerite Pederson, the third child in the family of six, was born on the family farm east of Naicam to John and Ella Pederson on May 25, 1921. While born a child of the 20’s, she grew up in the depression years of the 30’s, and this grueling experience proved a sturdy foundation for her life. She left school after grade 8 and went “out working”, serving as the “hired girl” to many families in the rural Naicam area and around Elrose. She also worked for a time as a clerk in the local store.
On one of her trips by train to Elrose, she met her future husband, Robert Davis. They were married on November 5, 1943 and lived in a log house on what became the family farm. While doing the gardening, and often helping in the fields, she also served as “mother” to her six children. A seventh child was stillborn in 1961, a victim of the thalidomide crisis of the early 60’s.
Although fully involved as a homemaker, and serving as an extra farm hand in the fall, she was also fully involved in many community leadership functions – Naicam Music Festival, 4-H, United Church Women, Naicam Figure Skating Club (as a member and CFSA judge), Cooperative Women’s Guild, Naicam Seniors, Greenlawn Birthday Club, Byng Community Club, church choir, and Shorthorn Lassies. One of her proudest accomplishments was her Norwegian baking, and many learned her techniques.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (1999), stillborn daughter (1961), granddaughter Adrienne (2012), her parents, five sisters and brothers (Violet Presber, Ross, Doris Albertson, Fern Jestin, and Garnet), and eight sisters- and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her immediate family — Garnet (Mary Ellen), Colleen (John Stuart), Keith (Anne), Lona (David Warrack), Daryl, and Sherlyn (Wayne Green), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren – Stephanie (Alvin Yau), Natalie and Nolan; Dean Stuart (Consuelo), Jack and Luke; Allison Kartusch, Andrew and Nathan; Kevin Adams (Christie), Sumer and Dmytro; Breanna (Scott Hermus), Mayson and Emory; Roberta (Brian Bain) and Knox; Jon Davis (Jen); Gordon Warrack (Jessica), Alexis and Griffin; Cayleigh (Patrick Murtagh), Grayson and Neave; Levi Warrack; Matt Fitzgerald-Davis; Kyle Green (Stephanie); Cameron Green (Jodi) and Claire. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Rudolph Albertson, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
As she lived, she also died, donating her body to be used for medical science at the University of Saskatchewan.
