Matthew Paul McCloskey
1981-2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the death
of Matthew McCloskey on December 27th, 2017 at the age of 36. Born in
Fredericton, NB, on November 13th, 1981, he was the husband of Jessica
(Cleveland) McCloskey of Fredericton.
In addition to his wife, Jessica, Matthew leaves behind his
children, Brett and Grace McCloskey; parents, Shelley Doucette-Goss
(Arnold) and Glen McCloskey (Rose); sisters, Lisa McCloskey (Alex),
Kathryn and Jeanette McCloskey; grandparents, Papa Don and Nan Noreen
and Valerie McCloskey; aunts, Cindy McLean (Al), Kim McCloskey Lint
(Mike) and Valerie Olmstead; uncles, Tim Doucette (Kelly), and Rick
McCloskey (Hughina); and many cousins. Matthew was predeceased by his
maternal grandmother, Vera Doucette; paternal grandfather, Willard
McCloskey; and uncle, Kolin McCloskey.
Matt grew up in Marysville, New Brunswick and considered
Oromocto his home. He was a very loving and committed father and
husband. He would go above and beyond for the ones he loved and anyone
else who needed it. Matt had two extended work families, he was
fiercely loyal and worked for Pepsi for 10 years. It was there that he
created many good memories and long lasting friendships. He then
proudly served in The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School for
close to 10 years. Matt truly found a place with the men and women he
worked with and did whatever possible to raise the morale of his
troops. He enjoyed being in the field and firing the guns and he found
happiness in sharing that experience with his son, Brett. In his
downtime, Matt spent time at “The Lake” which was a
place of fond memories from when he was a child growing up and from
the many family gatherings throughout the years. It was a place he
wanted to ensure both Brett and Grace were attached to. He, his wife,
his children and his best friend Jake spent a tremendous amount of
time creating cherished family memories here. It is here where
Matt’s spirit will continue to live on.
Matt wished to have a celebration of his life to remember the
good times. A reception will be held at the Oromocto Legion, 284
Restigouche Road, Oromocto, NB on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018 from
13:00 to 15:00 for all friends and family that wish to
attend.
