We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Winifred Herdman. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 13th, 2017 after suffering from a stroke.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank Herdman-January 2005. She is survived by daughter Fran Howard, son-in-law Russ Howard, grandson Sheldon Toop and granddaughter Lara Hurrell.
Mary was known as Nan to not only her grandchildren but also to many of their friends and cousins over the years. She was a proud English war bride, marrying the love of her life Frank Herdman and immigrating to Canada after the Second World War. She became the daughter-in-law to renowned Vancouver United Church Minister, Joseph Herdman. Soon after moving to Vancouver she started her family with Frank by giving birth to their daughter Frances. While Mary moved away from her family in Beeding, England she formed a close bond with her new family and countless close friends. Mary was known for her generosity, warm personality, English ways and her love of the Queen and royal family. She had a deep faith in the Lord and commitment to the Anglican church.
Family and friends are saying goodbye to her for now at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in Chemainus on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
Rest in Peace Mom – Nan. We’ll see you again someday. We love you more than words can say.
