Mary White – 2017

Mary Theresa White, age 99 1/2, of Gull Lake SK, passed away on April 24, 2017 at Gull Lake Special Care Home. The memorial mass was held at 1:00 p.m. on April 28, 2017 from St. Anne Roman Catholic Church with Father Anthony Padayatty officiating. The organist was Pam McConwell. The readers were nieces, Linda Copland, Lorraine Cathro, and the eulogy was read by grandson, Brad White. The ushers were Jack Fenwick and Steve Small. The interment service was held at Riverview Cemetery (south of Gull Lake). The urn bearer was granddaughter, Holly White, and the honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in her life. Mary is survived by her son, Norman (Jean) White of Gull Lake SK, grandson, Bradley White of Gull Lake SK, and granddaughter, Holly White (Kent Sereda) of Rolling Hills AB; sisters, Theresa Franks of Melville SK and Victoria (Albert) Fontaine of Medicine Hat AB; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Howard White; her parents, Ben and Margaret Valery; her sisters, Betty Foubert, Lynn (Allan) Stodalka, Em (Joe) Braun, and Margaret, at the age of 2 years; and brothers-in-law, Ernie Franks and Albert Thompson. Mary attended school at Grassy Hill and Gull Lake, and Normal School in Moose Jaw. She married Howard White of the St. Clair District on July 31, 1947. Mary and Howard farmed in the Clairbank District for many years. retiring to Gull Lake in 1981. Mary taught at Fox Valley, Drinkwater, Aldag, String Butte, Grassy Hill and Carmichael. Her teaching career was interrupted for two years during the war at which time she worked for the Civil Service in Ottawa. Mary was also home maker. She was a member of the Clairbank Ladies Club, Prairie Profiles and Grassy Hill History Book committees, CWL, Gull Lake Senior Citizens, and Gull Lake Special Care Home Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, hat making, but most of all enjoyed people, both young and old, and visiting. She was always very inquisitive and interested in whatever was happening around her. No one ever walked away from her house hungry. Mary especially enjoyed her visits to the farm where she loved cuddling baby animals, having a weiner roast with toasted marshmallows and being able to partake in a field meal at harvest time. Mary was always very proud of her two grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Mary was a kind, generous and caring woman who was always ever so welcoming, She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Home Auxiliary and the Gull Lake Cemetery Fund. Warren’s Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
