Mary Westera (Marrigje Toerse)
Mary Westera (Marrigje Toerse) known to many as Mom, Oma and Super Oma went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2017. She was born in Den Ham The Netherlands October 8, 1926, She married Ties Westera June 16, 1948 and they were happily married 49 years till his passing in 1997. They immigrated to Canada in 1948 setting roots in Central Alberta and eventually Red Deer, AB. Mary was very passionate in her faith. This was evident in her and Ties being one of the founding members of the First Christian Reformed Church in Red Deer.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Ties Westera, Daughter in Law Linda Westera, and Son in Law Ralph Pikkert. She is survived by her loving family: Helen Pikkert, John(Shiela) Westera, Rolf(Jacqueline) Westera, Jack(Theresa) Westera, Jane(Jeff) Visser. She was loved and will be missed by 19 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by Brother in-laws Sim(Edna) Westera and Henk Hofman(Jo Schipper). Sister in-laws Antje Toerse and Ans Westera. Mary is also survived and loved by many other extended family and friends across Canada and The Netherlands.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Eventide Funeral Chapel on Thursday at 7pm-9pm. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday November 10, 2017 at 1:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church 16 Mcvicar Street Red Deer, Alberta. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary’s honor to Noah’s Ark Playschool 16 McVicar Street Red Deer, AB T4N 0M1.
