November 15th 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Beckstead (Molly Beattie) on November 15, 2017. Molly was born in Trail, BC to Ronald and Geraldine Beattie.
As a young girl, Molly was a majorette and spent her winters at Cominco Arena figure skating and her summers at the family cabin at Shields Point.
A few jobs she had were; working as an usher at the Odeon Theatre, she was a telephone operator, and she also worked in Dr. Martin’s clinic. Molly moved to Nelson around 1970 to take up hairdressing and later worked for the school system of Kinaird Elementary until she retired.
In her spare time, Molly was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed knitting. She made many beautiful clothes and sweaters. She also enjoyed taking walks.
Molly is survived by her three children; Nadine (Peter) Korby, Laura (Steve) Hwalstad, and David (Della) Jones, nine grandchildren and three great-grandkids. Molly also survived by her five sisters; Colleen (Bill) Shields, Susan Nichols, Ronaye (Hugh) Ashlie, Candy (Joe) Parrilla, and Cyndi (Hank) Stackhouse, as well as her brother Paul (Marion) Beattie, and many nieces and nephews. Molly was predeceased by her husband William Beckstead, her parents Ronald and Geraldine Beattie, and her brother-in-law Edward Nichols.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff at CVL for their excellent care, kindness and compassion shown to Molly during her stay there.
At Molly’s request, no service will be held. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
