Mary Lou Robinson

Mary Lou Robinson (March 6th 1934 – February 19th 2017)
Mrs. Mary Lou Robinson, daughter of the late Hubert Burnip Carnahan and Louise Sarah Elizabeth Rich Carnahan was born March 6th 1934 in Toronto. She passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday February 19th 2017. Mary Lou attended Branksome Hall and graduated Prefect, MacAlpine Clan in 1952. In 1955 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from The Toronto General Hospital. She married Charles Alfred Robinson on March 15, 1958 and set off to have the most wonderful marriage, lasting over 58 incredible years. Mary Lou (sometimes known as Lou, Lou-Lou, Granny Lou, Lulu Belle, or just dear ‘Mom’) will always be cherished by her surviving husband, Alf; her older brother Douglas Carnahan; her four children, John and his wife Kristine, Douglas and his wife Susan, Peter and his wife Michelle, daughter Lara and her husband Duarte and their ten amazing grandchildren; Carlisle, Cal, Lucy, Jake, Tyler, Charlie, Ruby, Jackson, Aidan and Ava. Mary Lou did so much for so many. She served as an Autistic Care Worker from 1983-1994 working with teams in the development of programs that led to the first resident to live independently in the community, and the development of two group homes in Orangeville for higher functioning residents. She worked as Chairman of Inglewood Lifeline helping to sponsor a Loatian family. Swimming was a favourite sport of Mary Lou’s and she instructed Down Syndrome and Autistic children from 1973-1979. She was also a Teacher Aid for children with Mental illness. Mary Lou always liked to put others before herself. May she rest in peace and know that we will be looking after and cherishing our time with Alf.
‘A Celebration of Mary Lou’s Life’ will be held for family and friends this Spring with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kerry’s Place Autism Services, kerrysplace.org.
