Mary “Helene” O’Donnell
1922-2017
It is with great sadness that the family announces the
passing of Mary “Helene” O’Donnell (nee Pulsifer) on
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional
Hospital, Fredericton, NB after a brief illness. Born in Fredericton,
NB on July 22, 1922, Helene was the eldest daughter of the late Roy
Byron and Helen Albatenah “Tenah” (Clark) Pulsifer. She was
widowed by her dear husband, Horace Albert “Bert”
O’Donnell.
Helene was a life-long member of the congregation of Saint
Andrews Presbyterian Church. She was active in the church choir for
almost seventy years, and directed the junior choir for several years.
She also belonged to the church’s Tuesday Morning Ladies Group, and
other church community activities.
For many years, Helene was active in the membership and
leadership of the Seeker’s Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons,
attending several provincial, national, and international conferences
during her involvement. The provincial organization of King’s
Daughters and Sons was instrumental in establishing Farraline Home
(now Farraline Place), a residential assisted-living facility for
seniors in Fredericton, and this became her home for the past seven
years.
Helene is survived by her sons, Bill (Karen) of New Maryland,
NB, Brian (the late Neva) of Burnaby, BC, Doug (Evelyn) of Quispamsis,
NB; grandchildren, Nadine (Zack) of Vancouver, BC, Lee (Emily) of Los
Angeles, CA, Matthew (Lisa Dawn) of Fredericton, NB, Victoria (Nick)
Green of Stanley, NB, Ken Swan and Krista (Herb) Burke all of
Fredericton, NB; and great-grandchildren, Jessie-Lynn, Marissa,
Ashton, Isabelle and Meaghan.
Besides her parents and spouse, Helene was predeceased her
younger sister, Frances MacKenzie of Sarnia, ON, and her
daughter-in-law, Neva O’Donnell.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the Board and
the Staff of Farraline Place for the loving care and devotion provided
to Mom during her time at the home, and to the staff of 4NW at the
DECH for their tender care during Mom’s final days.
There will be a brief visitation on Tuesday, April 18, 2017
starting at 1:00 pm in the church hall of Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian
Church, 512 Charlotte Street, Fredericton, NB. A funeral service will
be held immediately following the visitation, at 2:00 pm, in the
sanctuary of the same location. Interment will be held in the
Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial
contributions can be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke
Foundation, or to Farraline Place, 776 Queen Street, Fredericton,
NB.
