THISTLE, M. Eileen (nee Downing) – Passed peacefully away in St. John’s, NL on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and John Glover, Eileen Thistle, age 100 years. Predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth Ella Moriah Davis Downing and James Henry Downing; husband, Jesse Gordon Thistle; and her brother, Sydney Downing. Leaving to mourn her only daughter and family, Elizabeth and John Glover; grandchildren: Andrew Glover of Calgary, Sarah Glover of Ottawa, and John Glover (Heather) of Ottawa; great-grandchildren: Jack and Emily Eileen; sisters: Audrey Green (Ted) of St. John’s and Joan Downing of Corner Brook; niece: Elizabeth Green Hamlyn (Glen) and family of St. John’s; extended family in Corner Brook and Clarenville, as well as special friends of First United Church Senior Choir and many dear and lifelong friends in Corner Brook. Funeral service will be held at First United Church, Park Street, Corner Brook, in the summer of 2017, with interment to follow at Townsite Cemetery, Corner Brook. As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to First United Church, Corner Brook, Girl Guides of Canada or the Canadian Red Cross.
