In her
100th year, the family of Mary Edith (Hart)
Mercer announce her death on November 21, 2017, peacefully at the Loch
Lomond Village. Mary was born on August 3, 1918 in Saint
John and was the daughter of the late William Hart and Arvilla
(Andrews) Hart.
Mary raised
her large family in the north end of Saint John. In later life, she
enjoyed over 30 years at Stephenson Tower, where she could be found
playing bingo, sitting in the sun as much as possible, enjoying bus
trips and her weekly outings with Ann. She was very proud of
her children and enjoyed many travels and family gatherings over the
years with them.
Mary is
survived by her children, Ann Marie McDonough (late Donald) of Saint
John, Jack (Lea) Mercer of London, ON, Christine Scribbans (late
William) of Saint John, Judy Steeves of Snow Lake, MB, Pat Mercer
(Bernice) of Rothesay, Larry Mercer (Arlene) of Quispamsis, Ian Mercer
(Theresa) of Saint John, Jacqueline (Patrick) Ards of Grand Prairie,
AB and Eugene Mercer of Saint John. She was predeceased by her
children, William and Mary in infancy and Robert and Thomas.
Mary is also survived by daughters-in-law, Joan (Ferris) Mercer and
Mary (Thompson) Mercer; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Mary was
the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included her
sisters, Alice Pierce, Arvilla (Dolly) Doyle and Velma McKenna and
brothers, William, Thomas, Walter “Bobby”,
James and Gordon.
Arrangements
are under the care and direction of Brenan’s
Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424)
with visiting on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 2:00 – 8:00
PM. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at
Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2:00
PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s
Cemetery.
The family
would like to thank the staff of Willow House at the Loch Lomond
Village, for their care and kindness to Mary.
In lieu of
flowers, remembrances may be made to any charity of the
donor’s choice.
