Marion Gray McBride – 1919-2017

1919-2017
Marion Gray McBride
1919-2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Marion McBride
announces her passing on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Dr.
Everett Chalmers Hospital.
Marion is survived by her daughter Janet Moss; grandchildren
Graham (Gina) and Andrew (Anne Dore); great-grandchildren Nolan and
Sadie; brother Robert (Marquita); as well as several niece and
nephews.
Marion is predeceased by her parents, William and Alma
Nevers; her husband Walter; son-in-law Stephen; brothers Glenn,
Graydon, and Dalton; and sisters, Willa, Nina, and
Doreen.
Marion was born in Hartland, NB on July 25, 1919, and lived
there until her marriage to Walter in 1940, shortly before he enlisted
in the Canadian Army. She moved to Woodstock and then
Fredericton, following his postings. After the war
they decided to stay in Fredericton, and in 1963 moved into their home
on Woodfield Crescent, which they enjoyed so much. After
Walter’s death in 1990, she continued to live independently
in her home, right up until the week of her passing. During
the WWII years, Marion worked initially as a hairdresser in Woodstock,
then at Zellers in Fredericton. She then devoted herself to
being a wonderful homemaker and, after Janet’s birth in
1952, mother. She returned to work in the 1970s as
“The TV Lady” at the old and new Fredericton
hospitals, where she was appreciated for her conversation and
encouragement as much as for the TVs she installed.
Marion cared deeply about her family – she took
great joy in following the activities and accomplishments not only of
her immediate family, but also those of her wide extended
family. Following the death of her older sister Willa, she
became the matriarch of the Nevers clan. She especially
enjoyed our family reunions in Odell Park, as well as the more
frequent family dinners to celebrate birthdays and other special
occasions. She also cared deeply about her many
friends. She developed lasting friendships with her
Woodfield neighbours, her fellow bridge partners, and the members of
her WMS group and the Get-Together Club at Brunswick St. Baptist
Church.
Marion’s was a long life, well lived. She
continued to embrace life even as she became very elderly, taking
pleasure and interest in so many things – her home and her
new neighbours on the Crescent, maintaining her front garden and her
flair for flower arranging, baking her famous desserts and gifting her
special treats to family and friends, enjoying lots of afternoon
bridge games and revelling in a hand well-played, as well as keeping
au courant with current events, and of course, the latest fashion
trends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff
in the Emergency Dept. and on 4 North West at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital, as well as to Marion’s family doctor, Dr. Carmen
Stuart.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Monday, November 6, 2017 from 2 – 5 pm. A funeral service
will be held at Brunswick St. Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 7,
2017 at 11 am with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating. Interment will be in
Greenwood Cemetery, Hartland, New Brunswick. For those who
wish, donations in Marion’s memory may be made to the Heart
and Stroke Foundation, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation, or a
charity of the donor’s choice.
