Obituary of Marie Semley
SEMLEY- Florence Rose Marie – January 9, 1926 – October 14, 2017. It is with heavy hearts that the Semley Family announce the passing of Marie Semley on October 14, 2017, in her 92nd year at Northland Pointe in Port Colborne, Ontario. She was pre-deceased by her husband Jack; sister, Rita Sauve; mother, Delima Bell and father, Roy Bell. Marie is survived by her grandchildren, John Semley and Jennifer Robert, Jennifer’s husband Mike, daughter-in-law Fran, and son David. Marie was born in Midland Ontario and moved to Port Colborne at a very young age. She lived in Port Colborne for more than 85 years. She attended Vimy School, Port Colborne High School and Welland Business College. Upon completion of business college, she worked at John Deere Welland Works until 1954. In 1945 she met her life companion, Jack Semley. They were married in 1947. She was Jack’s loving wife for almost 60 years. Marie was involved in many community activities throughout her life including the Niagara District PLECTRO Symphony, Port Colborne Art Club, Port Colborne Hospital Auxiliary, United Church Women, and the Port Colborne Museum. She was a lifelong member of Central United Church and enjoyed theater, art, concerts and travelling. However, her overwhelming joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was proud of them and loved them dearly. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Northland Pointe, in particular the “Angels” at “Harbour Heights”, for their compassionate end-of-life care. They made this transition much easier for Marie and her family. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Alan Daniel for his compassionate care and advice. Do not mourn her passing, celebrate her life! The family will receive friends at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Wednesday October 18, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow in the Davidson Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario, in Hamilton, or to the Semley-McKeown Family Fund at the Niagara Community Foundation.
