Margaret Merkl of Brooks, beloved widow of the late Joe Merkl, passed away on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Marg was born July 4th, 1935 in Tilley, Alberta. In the spring of 1945, Mom’s family moved to a farm in DeWinton, south of Calgary. Mom completed her Grade 9 schooling in the Davisburg School. She was a boarding student at the Lacombe Home in Midnapore for her Grade 10 and the last two years of High School were completed at St. Mary’s Girl School in Calgary. After graduating, mom worked for the Royal Bank of Canada in Calgary, until her marriage to Dad in 1956. Spring of 1969, Dad helped put the crops in and July 1969 after school was out Mom and children made their move to Brooks, where she has resided on the Family Farm since. Mom was extremely talented; especially crocheting, knitting, cake decorating, canning, gardening, lawn chair weaving. Mom enjoyed reading, playing cards, and had an awesome sense of humor as well she was Dad’s hired hand farming. Marg was predeceased by her husband Joe, son Alan Merkl, parents Steve and Rosalia Magyar and brothers Bill, Eugene, Steve, and Andrew and sisters Rose and Ethel. She is survived by her sister Rosalie of Florida and her children Dale (Darla) of Arcola, Saskatchewan, Barry (Dawn) of Creston, B.C., Cameron of Brooks, and daughter Corey (Mike) Meyer of Chestermere, AB. and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 PM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Deacon Robert N. J. Wilson officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tobias Redstar, Royce Redstar, Shala Merkl, Shane Merkl and Tyrell Roth. Active Pallbearer will be Dale Merkl, Barry Merkl, Cameron Merkl, Brandon Merkl, Kristopher Meyer and Evan Meyer. In memory of Marg, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Southern Alberta Myeloma Patient Society, P.O. Box 8165 Station A, Calgary, AB.
