Margaret Esther McKelvy (nee Graham) died peacefully in MacGregor Care Home in MacGregor, MB on January 29th, 2017, at the age of 97.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents William and Ethel Graham; her son Robert “Bob”; daughter-in-law Donna; brothers-in-law Raymond Kuran and Ronald McKelvy. Margaret is survived by her daughter Susan (Michael) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Jason (Pam) McKelvy and their children Declan and Keegan; Jill (Shawn) Klippenstein and their children Braden, Amy and Kailey; and Jolene (Rick) MacDonald and their children Brody and Jaxon. Also mourned by sisters-in-law Una Kuran and Alma McKelvy; nephews Gregg (Wallis), Grant (Valerie) and Dale (Diane) and many great nephews, nieces and cousins.
Margaret was born in Beaver, MB on July 25, 1919 the only child born to William B. and Ethel Graham. She attended school in both Beaver and Austin, and later attended hairdressing school in Winnipeg. After working in Portage, she opened her own business, starting in Peppers Hotel in MacGregor, Manitoba.
She married Vernon McKelvy on April 22, 1942. They welcomed their son Robert “Bob” into the family in 1944 and daughter Susan in 1954.
Margaret served on several committees including holding several positions in both the Curling club, Hospital Aid and Hobby Club. Her friends were very important to her and she enjoyed organizing social events and activities that included them. She easily made new friends wherever she went.
Margaret enjoyed curling, playing tennis and bridge and shone when she was hosting a party.
She loved to travel; she and Vern went on many trips over the years spending many summers in Clear Lake and Winters in Victoria, BC.
She adored her grandchildren and great grand children and enjoyed watching all their activities especially those that took place at the rink.
