Beaconsfield – John Hillsdon, 82, passed away Wednesday June 7, 2017 at the West Island Palliative Care Center following a year-long battle with liver cancer.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Seaton) Hillsdon; his daughters Karen (Tony), Annette (Mike) and Joanne (Chris); grandchildren Alex, William, Paryse, Melanie, Marc-André and Jasmine, and great-granddaughter Lilyanna.
Born and educated in the U.K., John graduated from Lutterworth Grammar School and was then apprenticed at the National Gas Turbine Establishment and the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. He then attended the Cranfield Institute of Technology in Bedfordshire, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
In 1960 he emigrated with his wife Shirley to Canada. He joined Canadair Inc. (Bombardier Aerospace) that same year, where he worked on many projects over the years, thoroughly enjoying the work and the company of all his coworkers. After 34 years he retired in the fall of 1994.
John’s family wishes to thank the medical team of the Lakeshore General Hospital Oncology unit, the staff of the CLSC and NOVA, and the kind and understanding caregivers of the West Island Palliative Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Island Palliative Care Center would be appreciated.
A memorial in celebration of John’s life will be held on his 83rd birthday, Saturday, 29 July 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the J.J. Cardinal funeral home, 560 Lakeshore Drive, Dorval, Québec, H9S 2B3. Friends of John and of the family are invited to attend, and to share memories and stories of time spent with John.
He will be truly missed by his loving family, and will be fondly remembered for his sense of fun and humour, his outgoing and gregarious personality, and his enjoyment of engaging anyone and everyone in conversation.
