Lucien Joseph Paradis
April 15, 1935 ~ January 11, 2017
Lucien Joseph Paradis, a longtime resident of Wetaskiwin, passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2017. He was born in McLennan, Alberta, the fourth child in a large French Canadian family of ten. Well known in the community for his passionate playing of the stringed instruments such as the mandolin, guitar, and banjo. Lou was a banjo specialist and many that heard him had difficulty resisting toe-tapping along. He was actively involved with the Wetaskiwin Jammers and was one of the original founders. He first worked at the Carnation Milk Plant, followed by a 22 year career as a Steam Engineer for the Wetaskiwin Hospital. He loved wood working and refurnishing many pieces including his mother’s dresser among other small projects such as bird houses. Lucien was also a member of the Legion for numerous years.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife of 38 years, Ida Paradis; his first wife, Rejeanne Paradis; children, Roland (Yolanda), Helen (Ron) MacAhonic, Adrian Paradis, and Victoria (Richard) Jaburek; son-in-law, Dan Larivee; daughter-in-law, Lisa Visser; grandchildren, Robbie (Carrie) Paradis, Ryan (Jolaine) Bailer, Russell (Jen) Bailer, Nathan Paradis, Nicola Paradis, Justina Paradis, Dustin (Meagan) MacAhonic, Desyre MacAhonic, Isabella Paradis, Elayna Paradis, Alexander Paradis, Octavius Paradis, and Eleanor Jaburek; five great grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Florence), Andre (Corinne); sisters, Rita (Dorand) Lavergne, Therese (Ross) Howden, Jeanette (Ed) Schatschneider, Annette (Morley) Moonen; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Marie-Jeanne Paradis; his wife’s siblings, Aurora, Diana (Ernie), Doug (Darlene), Merry (Wayne), Jim (Patty), Janette (Ken), Sharon (Rod), Anne (Larry), Kenny (Teresa), Virgina (Steeve); brothers-in-law, Vern, Chris, and Gene; as well as nieces and nephews of which are far too numerous to mention. He is predeceased by his parents, Emery and Delores Paradis; daughter, Denise Larivee; brothers, Donald and Real; sister, Marie; brother-in-law, Randy; wife’s relatives, Jackie, Patsy, Noviena, Augusta, Benjamin; brothers-in-law, Larry, and Arnie.
He loved and laughed with them all.
