Louise Kokot, 73, was carried home in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 9, 2017.
Louise was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba to Henry and Aganeta Peters on December 5, 1944. She was the youngest of nine children and raised on a Mennonite farm. Throughout her youthful years she became a member of the high school volleyball team, Grade 12 valedictorian and successful recipient of post-secondary scholarships. These scholarships allowed her to pursue a university education and graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1966.
She loved her work as a technician in the Cancer Centre at the General Hospital in Winnipeg and then at the radio isotope plant in Thunder Bay. While young and continuing to chase her dreams, she married (1967) and was soon after diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
In a short time, and with the arrival of her children Kelly and Jason, her priorities shifted and she found joy in being an outstanding mother and homemaker. For years, Louise was most often found either in the garden or the kitchen, baking and preparing meals for family and friends.
Despite the debilitating symptoms of MS, Louise never gave up the fight. God granted her the strength to raise her children as a single mother and continue her education – receiving an Educational Assistant Diploma in 1995.
As a long-standing member of Little Woody Baptist Church, faith and church family was central to her life. Louise will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her determination to overcome her circumstances and, in her words, her desire to “bloom where she was planted.”
Kelly and Jason will always remember her perpetual positivity, uncensored humor and most importantly, her unending, sacrificial love and exceptional devotion.
Louise is survived by her two children, their spouses and children – Kelly and Dean Smith (Cayle, Maren and Cali) and Jason and Sandra Kokot (Erica and Sarah), both of Calgary, Alberta; sister, Ruth (John) Inglis; brothers, Paul Peters, George (Myrtle) Peters; sister in law, Gail Peters.
Her children extend loving and heartfelt gratitude to family and special friends who supported her throughout the many years, as well as to the nurses who cared for her at the Swan Valley Lodge.
