Obituary Overview
Lester Julian Lycan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Lester Julien Lycan on November 18, 2017. “Tiny”, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on October 30th, 1926 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He moved to Winnipeg to begin a lengthy career with Air Canada. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gwenith Marie Moline.
Les was a quiet man who loved to read, especially valuing a quiet time, after work, with the evening newspaper, his dog Rags perched on his lap. He also enjoyed family excursions with Gwen and their children, James, William and Karen providing them with many fond memories and infecting them with a bug for foreign travel.
Les and Gwen were long time cottage owners, in the Grand Beach area, along with cherished longtime friends, Chuck and Trudy Sabo, Wally and Dorothy Jones and many others.
Les had a varied involvement in sports. He ski jumped as a boy, was a skip on an Air Canada curling team, golfed any chance he got and played horse shoes and bocce ball at the beach.
Our father was a self-reliant man who, in support of his family, was not one to shy away from any task. In fact, he was a jack of all trades and a master of most of them.
He is survived by daughter-in-law Michelle McArthur, son William Lycan (Susan) and daughter Karen Lycan (David Lang). Grand-children are Mireille Lycan (Jessie Haichik), Kelsey Walsh (Morgan), Martine Wilson, Ellyse Wilson, David Lycan (Heather), Scott Lycan, Samuel Lycan, Ethan Lycan-Lang and Sarah Lycan-Lang. Great-grand-children are Brendon Haichik, Mia Haichik, Kiera Lycan, Jade Lycan and Brinley Walsh and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Gwen, son Jim McArthur, infant twin brother, brothers John, Richard and sisters, Pearl, Ilene, Erma, Arda, June and Doreen.
We would like to thank all the staff of the Dakota House and Deer Lodge for the kindness and tender care provided to our father.
In compliance with Les’s wishes, no funeral service will be held
