Born on March 17, 1934, in Guelph, Ontario, to James A. and Kathleen (Laurie) Barclay, and passed away in Victoria, B.C. on September 12th, 2017. Predeceased by beloved husband, John Richard (Rich) King in 2001, her parents, brother James D. Barclay and step-father Roy A. Gunn.
Survived by: Sisters-in-law Deborah King (Alberta) and Elizabeth Barclay, Parksville, B.C. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends across Canada and the U.S.A. Also survived by little four-legged friend, Charlie. Seven other little friends are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
Laurie Anne grew up in Belleville and Port Arthur, Ontario, and with Rich, moved from what became Thunder Bay Ontario, to Selkirk Manitoba, then in 1973 to beautiful Victoria B.C. which had been their home since.
Laurie Anne worked in the Health Care field for 35 years, in Thunder Bay, St. Boniface, and Victoria. She particularly enjoyed working in Quality Assurance with the medical and nursing staffs and meeting many good friends during her career.
After retirement, Laurie Anne and Rich traveled widely throughout Canada and the U.S.A., mainly in their 5th wheeler, and especially to their much loved “camp” (cottage) at Bay’s End on Lake Superior near Thunder Bay.
A gathering of friends will be held in Victoria BC. (date to be determined), and a graveside service and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Thunder Bay, at a later date.

Dear Family of Laurie King, I was saddened to see notice of her passing in the Thunder Bay’s Chronicle Journal. Laurie was my first “boss” at McKellar Hospital in the Medical Records Dept. We all loved her and she was one of the nicest and kindest women I have encountered in my work life. She invited us out to her camp on Lake Superior once where I first learned to waterski and got tossed into the lake losing my wedding ring…it was a sign of things to come but I didn’t know it then She invited me to visit her in Victoria but I never got around to it. Laurie Anne was a good friend when we were both in high school and although I saw her later and we remained in touch over the years as members of the group of high school friends, I find myself picturing her in my mind as that teenaged friend. We both chose the health care field and our lives drifted apart but in our hearts we remained northerners and graduates of PACI. She remained a loyal friend to many.

Laurie Anne welcomed me to Victoria 26 years ago and continued to be supportive as I made my home here. As we travelled the peninsula together she related information and events associated with the territory.Throughout all her illnesses she has shown such tremendous strength and courage with a cheerful demeanour and sense of humour. I will continue to miss her. My condolences to the family.

Laurie Anne has been my friend for about 69 years, from Grade 9 on. We were members of the illustrious Tillicum Gals from Port Arthur. We worked in the same hospital – she in Medical Records and I in the Operating Room, and have shared so many memories over the years. We were bridesmaids together for our friend, Jean Hill. I will miss her. She is in my memory bank forever.
