1916-2017
Laura Maude (DeLong) Underhill went to be with her Lord on
September 15, 2017, in Gagetown, NB. Maude was born in Hibernia, NB on
November 22, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Lena
(Brown) DeLong and wife of the late Maxwell Underhill.
Maude was known for her love of sewing. She sewed ties for
Loomcrofters NB and made the dressings for the Canadian Cancer Society
for many years. She was a seamstress, a quilter and a knitter. At the
age of 98, she was still knitting many items for her family and still
loved tending to her garden. Maude was a member of the Upper Hampstead
Baptist Church and attended bible study. For many years Maude had
taught Sunday School at the church.
Survived by her sons, Kenneth, Robert, Hazen (Faye) and
Claude (Marion) Underhill; 8 grandchildren; 21 great
grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Freda
(George) Hennessy, Faye (Merle) Brophy and Hughena
‘Ween’ (Woody) Somerville as well as nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maude was predeceased
by her son, Kevin Underhill; daughter-in-law, Leta; 5 brothers and one
sister.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 from
2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home. A funeral service will
be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11 am in the Oromocto
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Johnston officiating. Interment will
take place in the Upper Hampstead Cemetery. Memorial donations may be
made to The Gideon’s or the Upper Hampstead Cemetery
Fund.
