1930-2017
Following a brief illness, Laura May DeMerchant of Upper Kintore, NB,
passed away peacefully at the Upper River Valley Hospital on August
16, 2017.
Laura was born in Bath, NB, on February 22, 1930. She was the daughter
of the late Ernest and Katherina (Gaunce) Chapman. Laura leaves behind
her daughter, Valerie DeMerchant-Nicol (Robin) of Oakland, ME; her
sons, Earl DeMerchant (Margaret) of Sussex, NB, Reid DeMerchant
(Vivian) of Rusagonis, NB, Robin DeMerchant (Shawna) of Upper Kintore,
NB; her sisters, Betty Hathaway and Irene Giberson, both of
Perth-Andover, NB; and her brother, Elmore Chapman of Perth-Andover,
NB; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; along with many
nieces and nephews.
Laura was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Nimrod DeMerchant;
her sisters, Mary Lou Dechant and Phyllis Johnson; her brother; Ronald
Chapman.
Laura was a school teacher in the Perth-Andover area for many years
prior to her retirement. She was a member of the United Church of
Canada, the New Brunswick Teachers Association, as well as the NB
Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the United
Church Women’s group.
Resting at Brunswick Funeral Home with visitation on Friday 2-4 and
6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1
pm from the Upper Kintore United Church. Rev. Christine Gladu
officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Upper Kintore United
Church Cemetery or the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be
appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover.
