On the evening of November 11th John Kliewer went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 89.
He struggled with dementia for several years and passed away peacefully after a brief stay at The Oxford and then Menno Home. John was born in Rudnerweide, Ukraine, the oldest of 3 boys, to Johann and Liese Kliewer. He and his brothers built a successful construction company, Kliewer Bros. Construction Ltd., building homes in the Greater Vancouver area. After his retirement he built one more house for himself in Abbotsford so that he and Mary could be closer to their children. John had a strong work ethic, was honest, generous, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Family meant everything to John and he was always ready with a helping hand. He may have been small in stature but he had a big heart, a strong handshake and a smile for everyone he met. He loved the Lord and left a legacy of faith. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Mary, his children, Linda (Ernie), Cindy (Kim), Harry (Kathy), and Ed (Cathy), his 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and his 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor Street, Abbotsford, on Tuesday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to The Mennonite Central Committee at mcccanada.ca.
