SCHTRAM: Katie
Katie Schtram died peacefully on Thursday April 13th, 2017 in Sarnia, Ontario after a long illness. She was born in Bolkenhain, Germany on May 28th, 1927. In the post-war confusion she left Germany to join her husband Nick Schtram in Canada in 1952. In 1957 she proudly received Canadian Citizenship.
At first Nick and Katie lived in Sarnia, and eventually moved to North Bay, where Katie lived for 34 years. Nick passed away in 1988 and five years later, Katie returned to Sarnia to live with Walter Mendritzki, a former friend of both of them. After Walter’s death in December 2007, she went to Fairwinds Lodge in April 2008 and lived there for several years. Her final years were spent at Afton Park Place in Sarnia.
At her request she will be placed beside her husband in North Bay. The funeral services will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home in North Bay, at 1:30pm on Friday April 28, 2017. Sympathy may be expressed through a donation to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rev. Gerald Slote, 725 Ferguson St., North Bay, Ont., P1B 1X8, or to any charity of your choice.
