On February 28, 2017, Mrs. Katharine Harapniuk of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Chipman AB, passed away at Capital Care Grandview at the age of 93 years .
Katharine is survived by her two sisters, Dora Eiserman of Medicine Hat, AB, and Josephine (Peter) Tymko of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law, Aulie Widynowski of Edmonton, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Nicholas in 1952; her parents, Michael and Effie Widynowski; brothers, Nicholas, John, Peter, Bill and Joseph; sisters, Mary Louis, Anne Semotiuk and Margaret Bettridge.
Katharine received many awards for volunteering including Dame of Grace in the order of St. John’s and the Governor General’s Canadian Caring award in recognition of her outstanding and selfless contribution to her community and to Canada. She also received Papal recognition from Pope Paul VI, acknowledgement for her contribution to society.

Divine Liturgy Tuesday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7008 – 109 Street. Basilian Fathers officiating with interment in St. Joachim’s Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Basilian Fathers House of Studies, 12909 – 113 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5M 2W8 or St. John Ambulance, 12304 – 118 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5L 5G8.
