Karel passed away peacefully at the Cold Lake Health Centre on May 20, 2017 at the age of 93. His beloved wife of 58 years predeceased him in 2010. He is survived by his son, Tony (Helene) of Richmond Hill, Ontario and daughter, Corry Zeebregts (Glenn) of Cold Lake, Alberta. Also survived by his grandchildren Chris Zeebregts (Janice) and Alexandra Claybert (Matt), Carlene van Alphen and Evan van Alphen as well as a great grandson Ethan Claybert. He is also survived by his brothers Jac of the Netherlands and Tony of Ontario.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Drik, Kees, Andre, Pete and Frans and sisters Marie and Jacoba.
Carl was born in 1924, grew up during the Great Depression and worked in a munitions factory as a forced labourer in Nazi Germany during the last two years of World War II. He returned home on foot at the end of the war, married Dina in 1952 and immediately immigrated to Canada.
Within a year they had moved from New Brunswick to Southern Ontario and then to Sudbury to work in the mines where he continued working for over thirty years. He partnered with his brother and purchased a hobby farm that continued to be farmed for over fifty years.
Carl and his wife moved to Cold Lake in 2007 to be near their daughter who cared for them both through their senior years.
To Honour Karel’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will take place at a later date.
