K. Judy Armstrong
1940-2017
Karen Judy Armstrong of New Denmark passed away at Hotel Dieu
of St. Joseph, Perth-Andover with her son Christian by her side on
March 3, 2017. Judy had bravely endured a fourteen year
battle with cancer.
Judy was born at home in Blue Bell, NB in 1940 to her
parents, Edward and Ingeborg Johnsen. She was named after
her mother’s sister, Karen Jorgensen of Dalhousie, NB.
She was valedictorian for the New Denmark High School Class
of 1958. She worked in the Admissions Department of the
Perth Hospital from 1959 to 1963. Following her marriage to
James Armstrong in 1963, Judy was a caring wife and mother and made
friends throughout the Perth-Andover area. Judy helped with
many organizations in Perth and New Denmark. These included
the Perth Hospital, Perth Library and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and
Women’s Group. Judy was President of the New Brunswick
Association of Auxiliaries during the 1980s.
Judy loved her home in New Denmark and her Danish
heritage. She loved living in the country and said
Home was best. She worked in the greenhouse, flower beds and
garden. She found great pleasure creating many things using
her sewing machine. She attended the local Farmer’s Markets
for many years until stopped by her illness. She made many
good friends from those she met during her time at the
market.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Ingeborg
(Jensen) Johnsen, brothers, Jens Flemming and Freddy, sister Marie
Taylor and her husband John and her special goddaughter, Linnea
Veinotte.
She is survived by her son Christian, sister-in-law Lisa
Johnsen, nieces, nephews and many cousins, plus all her good
neighbours and friends.
In lieu of flowers, it would be preferred that anyone wishing
to can make a donation to their local animal shelter, food bank or
library.
Resting at O’Regan’s Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd.,
Grand Falls with visiting hours on Wednesday, March 8th from 5 to 8
p.m.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the funeral home on
Wednesday, March 8th at 8 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Weigold
officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in
St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, New Denmark.
