Mrs. Joyce Sills

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, with her son Michael by her side, Joyce Sills passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2016 at the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce. Dear mother of Michael Holden (Sue), of Owen Sound, Ian Holden, of Vancouver, B.C. and Richard Holden, of Qualicum Beach. B.C., Joyce will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Matthew (Kate), Mark (Emily), Danielle, Cameron, Sean, Wesley, Jamie and great-granddaughter, Penelope Violet. Joyce will be profoundly missed by her cherished sister, Beryl Murphy, of Port Elgin; her niece, Claire (Steve); her nephew, Nigel and his children, Chris (Laura) and Jenna; her cousin, Kevin Haigh, of East Morton, Yorkshire; the Lowe family; the Davies’ family; as well as her many friends in London, Ontario, the United Kingdom and at Seasons Retirement Home (especially Mies), in Owen Sound. Joyce is predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Amy Haigh; brother-in-law, John Murphy; sister, Margaret Ashworth (Jack) and the love of her life, Dr. Paul Sills, of London, Ontario. Born Joyce Haigh, on November 13th, 1929 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England, she moved to Canada in 1955 and resided in London, Ontario for the majority of her life. Along with raising three sons, she enjoyed a rewarding and successful career managing the practices of several noted medical specialists at University Hospital. She also taught shorthand, medical terminology and medical office procedures at Fanshawe College in London. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centers at the London Health Sciences and at the Owen Sound Hospital. Special appreciation is extended to all of the compassionate doctors, nurses, caregivers, administrative staff and volunteers at the Residential Hospice where Joyce spent her final days. A special thank you is also extended to Drs. Huff, Sandhu, Dingle and Pereira for their tireless and caring efforts while treating Joyce during her illness.
A Memorial Service for Joyce Sills will be held in the chapel of the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519) 376-7492 on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Heather McCarrel officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Friends and family are invited to a light lunch afterwards at Michael and Sue’s home (169 – 3rd Avenue East, Owen Sound).
