Obituary for Joyce Edith Stewart
STEWART: Joyce Stewart went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Gordon. Left to miss her are her sons David (Adele) and Ian (Sally); granddaughters Carly and Lynn; grandson David Jr. (Sayo) and her two great grandchildren Ennichi and Hayley Rei.
Joyce enjoyed many interests but the greatest love of her life was her family. She had a close bond with her siblings sharing meals, card games and spending holidays together. Her special bond with her sister Isabell was a joy in her life that she treasured. Joyce met her husband Gordon in Souris, Manitoba and they lived most of their lives in her beloved Brandon. She loved her time with eldest son David (Adele) especially out in nature enjoying the lake with them near Prince George. She cherished the special times she had with her grandchildren Carly, Lynn and David and when she was able to have them with her for holidays. The stories and her love of birds, cats, gardens, lighthouses, good books, home cooking, music, children and nature has been passed along to them to hold dear forever. Her love of travel was something she was able to share with her youngest son, Ian (Sally) and she had great memories touring the UK with them several times. She also loved the Canadian east coast and was grateful for the last trip with sister-in-law Verlie. Her faith, contribution and service was at St. Mary’s Anglican Church along with various charity groups and special events. Joyce was an avid baker and always enjoyed whipping up cookies. She was active in volunteering at the communal suppers at the Church and being part of the congregation. She was always grateful for her special friendship with the community that took care of the bluebird boxes in rural Manitoba along with her friend Betty Shankland.
Joyce nursed in Souris in her younger years but was well known in Brandon for having been a home hairstylist; even at Fairview her old customers would recognize her. Joyce always looked great and loved being dressed nice. Thank you to Addi for taking care of Joyce’s hair. You always gave her a big lift with your care, friendship and service.
Joyce’s home that she and Gordon built was her heart and she lavished love in it and through it. A special thank you to Darlene and Allan Hawkins for being such good neighbours who helped her whenever she needed anything and assisted her in being able to stay there for those few extra years. Thank you to her niece Gail Cork who assisted Joyce with friendship, rides and attending to her needs especially in her last few years. Thank you to the staff of Victoria Landing and Fairview Personal Care Home for your kindness and understanding.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Thank you Mom for being the ever loving Mother that you were.
