Obituary of Josl Huter
It is with heavy hearts that the Huter Family would like to share the passing of Josl Huter, their Patriarch and Founder of Mount St Louis Moonstone Ski Resort.
Josl died peacefully at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital on Thursday December 14th, 2017 at the age of 84. Josl had survived a brain tumor and suffered from epilepsy as a result. Sadly, he spent the last few years battling Alzheimer’s.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Elfriede and his sons, Robert (daughter-in-law Sarah) and Andre along with his older sister Herta Grubmueller. His legacy remains his 4 grandchildren, whom he was incredibly proud and loved dearly, Nicholas, Jacob, Lukas and Charley Grace.
Josl lived an amazing life. He was a pioneer in the Canadian Ski Industry and skiing was his passion. He was an avid ski racer in his home country of Austria, a proud Ski Instructor and the visionary behind MSLM, the second largest ski resort in Ontario. He loved to Yodel. His sense of humour kept many of us laughing until his final days. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
A funeral mass will be held for immediate family at Mount St Louis Catholic Church and the family asks for privacy at this time. Further announcements will be made regarding Josl’s Celebration of Life this spring for those who knew and loved him. It will be a time to ski in his honour and share beloved memories.
As an expression of sympathy donations in memory of Josl may be made to The Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada, The Alzheimer Society or to Epilepsy Canada and may be made through the funeral home.
