Obituary for Joseph “Joe” Luzney
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Luzney, age 88 years, which occurred at the Carewest Sarcee Healthcare Facility in Calgary on Monday, February 27, 2017. Joe was born in Western Ukraine, and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1929. The family settled and farmed near Elfros, Saskatchewan. He attended the nearby rural Haglof school. Joe then completed an automobile mechanical course in Winnipeg, and operated the Texaco gas station in Wadena, Saskatchewan for many years, later moving to Saskatoon. In 1975 he married Michaeline Komaryk and they settled in Calgary, Alberta. Joe worked as an automotive technician at GSL until his retirement. Not one to remain idle, he returned to work with Avis at the Calgary airport for many years. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Michaeline; brother, Msgr. Rudolph Luzney; sisters,Anne (Wally, deceased) Moldenhauer and Marie (Michael) Krochak. He is also survived by his nephew, Michael (Brenda) Krochak; nieces, Carla (Darcy) Marciniuk and Ramona (Robert, deceased) Bennetto; as well as great nephews and nieces, Natasha, Alexander, Andrew and Nicholas Krochak, Tanya and Jeffrey Marciniuk and Rena Bennetto. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary (Velychko) Luzney. Although Joe and Michaeline did not have children, they cherished their nephew’s (Michael Krochak) children Natasha, Alexander, Andrew and Nicholas, who grew up in Calgary and treated them as their own loving grandchildren. Joe and Michaeline had a strong faith, were very active in St. Stephen’s parish, and enjoyed their travels to Ukraine, Rome and the Holy Land. Joe was a skilled mechanic, carpenter and handyman and was in great demand because he could build and fix anything. He had a strong work ethic and ensured everything he did was his very best. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man. Joe faced every challenge with a smile.
