SUTHERLAND’S RIVER – José Carlos Barbosa, 58, Sutherland’s River, passed away peacefully, July 12, 2017, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in São Jacinto, Portugal, he was the son of the late José and Alzira (Galante) Barbosa and was very proud of his Portuguese heritage. José along with his wife were the proud owners of Big City Tools and RT 1000 Woodworking, and he was a seasonal worker at Lismore Seafood Ltd. He was a long time coach of Stellarton and Area girls softball teams on both the provincial and national level. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, tinkering in his wood shop and spending time with his family and his beloved dog Spencer.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Lindsay); daughters; Virginia Barbosa (Jeff), Churchville; Jennifer Barbosa (Katelyn), Halifax; sisters, Zaida (José) Silva; Salomé (Allen) Coe; Georgina Barbosa; numerous nieces and nephews; all of Dartmouth.
The family will receive visitors Friday, July 14, 2017 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Our Lady Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Barrett Clare-Johnston presiding.
