John William Melnick
1951 – 2017
John Melnick, aged 65, who was relieved of his earthly body, awaiting resurrection, entered into rest on Monday, March 6, 2017.
John was born on December 7, 1951 at Kamsack, Saskatchewan. He was a son of William and Annie (nee Lucki) Melnick.
At an early age, John trusted Christ as his saviour. As his age advanced, he looked forward to Jesus’ return. John’s first love was music. He had a beautiful singing voice and could play almost any song after hearing it once. He taught his children, Ben, Rheanna and Dustin of whom he was so proud, to play music by ear. He lived happily with his wife, Connie, for almost 40 years.
John Melnick was a force of nature. He was honest to a fault, a highly sensitive person, strong as an ox and stubborn as a mule.
In his younger days, he would pick up a hitchhiker, find out where they were headed, and drive them all the way there, no matter how far. One time, he drove a hitchhiker all the way to Regina.
He was adventurous. He was fearless. He would talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime, about anything.
He taught his children to live free, to always question things and to find happiness in whatever they chose to put their hands to.
He searched for truth and could find it in the most unexpected places.
On July 21, 2015, John suffered a major stroke and several more after, which left him disabled and in the hospital for one year followed by months in the nursing home in Roblin. In August of 2016, his wife brought him home to spend his final days where he spent his time quietly. He died peacefully on the morning of March 6, with his wife by his side.
John was predeceased by his dad in 1979 and his mom in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Connie and his children Ben (Heather), Rheanna, and Dustin, two sisters Pat Johnson and Maryann (Nevin) Shaw, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family remembrance will take place at a later date.
