John Sewell
1934-2017
It is with sadness that the family of John Sewell, age 82,
husband of Joan (Smith) Sewell of Belleisle Creek, NB, announces his
death which occurred peacefully at, Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB,
on January, 14, 2017. He was born in Birmingham, UK, the son of the
late Harry and Emma (Foster) Sewell.
John is survived by his wife Joan; three children Audrey
(Rick) Newell of Dartmouth, NS, Jackie (Royden) Kitchen of Longs
Creek, NB, John Sewell of Fredericton, NB, and their mother Joan, nee
Jeffery; five grandsons Josh (Becca), Nick, Gregory, Wyatt and Wil;
great granddaughter Lilly; step-children Aralee (Phil) Coombes,
Michelle Chamberlain (Rick Campbell); step-grandchildren Jeremiah,
Gabe, Veronica, Micah, Judah, Elijah and Stella; sister Sheila Tipper;
and several nephews and nieces, special daughter-in-law, Carrie and
long time friends Peter Evans, Moncton and John Pirie, Fredericton .
John was predeceased by siblings Bob, Nora, Florrie, Hilda,
Eric and Peggy.
We will miss you Dad, but before you left us you did so
much…You loved and cared for us, you taught us to respect others,
use manners, be polite, be kind…just like you. Thank you for taking
your son fishing those many times, and showing me off to all the
farmers on your calls. I will always remember those special
times with you Dad. Thank you for chauffering us to games and
concerts, even waiting outside when your daughters were screaming at
boy bands…thank you Dad. you were our biggest fan.
Remember the times with ol Gunsmoke…so many fun adventures with the
best horse/pet ever, You loved all our pets from dogs and
cats to chickens and salamanders and growing up on our little
farm was an adventure at times but we wouldn’t trade those
days for anything.
As we got older and we didn’t need you everyday, you still
had a strong influence in our adult lives, especially when we needed
you most. Your heart just got even bigger when your grandchildren
came, you were a great keeper and had your grandsons bowled over with
uncontrollable laughter at times, they will always remember!! we know
they couln’t have asked for a better Grampy. Thank you for
passing on your cooking skills, your gardening skills, your love of
music (and here we are sometimes actually listening to
“YOUR” music, never thought that would happen xo).
No one could tell a story like you, and we will remember those times
and retell them, only not as well. We will miss your sense
of humour, your great presence and your love of life and
family. Rest in peace Dad until we meet again and in faith
we will. Audrey, Jackie, Johnny.
John and I have had a connection from the first time we met
over 30 years go…first as neighbors, then as friends and,
eventually, as a married couple. There were so many wonderful memories
created throughout those years, memories that will always be held
close to my heart. John, a tall, robust man with pure white hair and
moustache and a thick British accent, was known for his winning smile
and “gift of gab”. He was always a gentleman, kind, gentle
and the first to offer a helping hand. He loved children, and my
grandchildren have fond memories of being taken down to the creek to
go fishing and of following him down the field where he would show
them the fox den and taught them about the various plants and trees
growing there. As a testament to the many lives he touched in a loving
way, messages and phone calls continue to arrive from friends in
Wales, England, every Canadian province, the USA, and even Mexico. His
niece called him a gentle giant…he certainly was. I will miss having
him in my life every day, that great sense of humour, …I’ll miss
hearing him sing and whistle as he went about his day …and that
laugh that made you laugh, too, even when you didn’t know what he was
laughing about. He will never be forgotten by all of us who love him
so much. Remember to save me a seat next to you at the Button Oak,
John…I’ll meet you there xoxoxo..your wife, Joan
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s
Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road,
Norton, NB. As per John’s request there will be no
visitation or funeral service. A small family celebration of his life
will take place when the grass is green and the flowers are in
bloom.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the SPCA,
Alzheimer’s Society or the memorial of the donor’s
