Aucoin, John Robert (Bob)
October 5, 1942 Vancouver, B.C.
March 14, 2017 Calgary, AB
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Robert (Bob) Aucoin at the age of 74 as a result of multiple myeloma and kidney failure. Bob is survived by Lucy, his loving wife of 52 years, his sisters Marilyn (Jerry) and Carol, sister-in-law Dianne, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and was extremely proud of. Bob was predeceased by his father Thomas, his mother Eleanor, and his brothers Fred and Jim.
At age 17, Bob joined the military and served in the Queen’s Own Rifles and PPCLI for 13 years. He was stationed in Victoria and Germany and also served in Cyprus as part of peacekeeping forces for two terms. After leaving the military, Bob worked at Canada Post for 20 years before retiring in 2003. Bob had a great sense of humour, a zest for life, and he loved to travel. An avid 10-pin bowler, Bob had a keen interest in promoting the sport. He helped form, and later became President of, the Alberta Tenpin Bowling Association. He also became a Level 3 NCCP Course Conductor and was the Team Alberta coach at the National Championships on numerous occasions. Bob was a huge supporter of both the Calgary Stampeders (continuous season ticket holder since 1967) and Calgary Flames. Despite many health issues in his later years, Bob battled these obstacles bravely while maintaining a positive outlook on life. Bob will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to especially thank Dora, June, Mylen, and many other nurses from the Hemodialysis Unit at the Foothills Medical Centre. We also appreciate the medical expertise received from his nephrologists Dr. Muruve, Dr. Wang, and Dr. Cheema and from his oncologist, Dr Tay. Also a special thank you to Dr. Mark Stanton, the Resident Doctor at the Foothills who was visiting him and the family on numerous occasions.
Funeral service will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Nanaimo, B.C. Time and date to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (www.kidney.ca).
