It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of John, while surrounded by his family, at The Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. John passed on his own terms, fully aware that he had fought the good fight until his last breath. John is reunited with the love of his life, the late Victoria (2016). Cherished son of Joseph and Helen Ann Mathews. Loving father of John (Stephanie Sinclair) and Quinter Marie Gordon (Dan). He was an extremely proud Papa of Mathew, Alexandria, Katelyn and Ryan. Brother of Josephine Zvonkin (Carl), Phyllis DiTomaso (late Sam), Tom Mathews (Mary), Frances Brown (late Ralph), Claire Poliziani (late Meco), late Dolores Jimenez (late Cezar), and the late Elaine Peddle (late Bob). Special thanks to the lovely ladies at Able Living, Dr. Frank Fornasier, Dr. Leber, Dr. Carling Chambers and the staff and volunteers at The Carpenter Hospice. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 3-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 146 Park St. North, Hamilton on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. For those who wish memorial donations to the Burlington Humane Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
