McIsaac, John Joseph (Jack) Age 92, Windsor Junction
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Jack’s passing on April 4, 2017. Jack was a caring, positive man with a great attitude and outlook on life. He was a skater, a reader, a gardener and a cook. He grew the best tomatoes and was known for his turkey soup and fish chowder. He loved his family, friends, neighbours and a good joke. Generous with his time and helpful to everyone, he will be sadly missed by many. Jack attributed his longevity to “hanging around with the young folks” and was still making friends in his 80’s and 90’s. He was a young 92 who was quick-witted and could challenge anyone in a good debate. He lived every day independently and with great dignity and vigour.
Retired from Canadian National Railway where he worked for 40 years, he was also a World War II Veteran who served his country with the Canadian Scottish Regiment, C Company. He recently received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Century of Service Honorary Award for Veterans.
Born on September 20, 1924, he was the son of the late James and Martha (Allen) McIsaac. He is survived by his children Barrie (Paula), Bridgewater; Hugh (Debbie), Windsor Junction; Joan McIsaac (Halifax); grandchildren, Nicholas (Rhodi) McIsaac, Jocelyn (Joe) McIsaac, Skye (Kirk) Nickerson; great grandchildren, Aidan John Dickinson, Oland Kent Nickerson, and Easton Jack Nickerson; sisters Marguerite (Jimmy) Fisher (Boston), Eunice Marshall (Toronto), Shirley Purcell (Halifax), and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva (Adams); brothers, Archibald, Philip, Ronald, and Gordon.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Coronary Care Unit of the Halifax Infirmary. Their care and compassion was greatly appreciated.
There will be a casual celebration of Jack’s life from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 9 at Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville.
Family flowers only. Donations in Jack’s memory can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Dieppe 90 (Waverley).
