It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Elmer Devoe, 74, on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at home in Millville.
Born in Florence on March 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary (Jobes) Devoe.
John, known as “Brother” to family and friends, worked at CN Marine as a stevedore for 10 years until joining the IUOE as a heavy equipment operator, working industrial jobs from the Heavy Water Plant, to Confederation Bridge, retiring due to illness. He received his 40 year pin.
He is survived by his daughter Danita, son J.J. (Kirsten), grandchildren Jordan (Jess), Virginia, Liam, and his wife Maureen (McCready), sisters Mary Penny, Rosalie Bragg, and Irene (Robert) Bradley, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Winnifred, Brenda, and Rogene, brother Melvin, and step-mother Pearl Devoe.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
John’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was always telling them he loved them and how proud he was of them.
Special thanks to Dr. L.D. MacKenzie, Dr. William MacDonald, and the VON nurses that cared for him over the years, especially Marlene MacIntosh and Danielle.
