John D. (Jack) Keddy
John D. (Jack) Keddy, 80, of Kensington, PEI, passed away at
home on September 11, 2017 following a lengthy battle with
cancer.
Born in Springhill, NS, he was the son of the late Willis and
Margaret Keddy. As a young man, he joined the military and served in
the army with postings in Gagetown, Charlottetown and Kingston, ON and
was part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Middle East
in 1961. Following his military service, Jack and his family returned
to Amherst where he worked for Maritime Tel & Tel and Bendix
before joining Corrections Canada. He worked at the penitentiaries in
Dorchester and Springhill before transferring to the regional office
in Moncton. Jack eventually made his way to the Justice Institute at
Holland College in Summerside where “Justice Jack” was an
instructor training officers in the corrections division for 13 years.
He retired from Holland College in 2003 and enjoyed retirement at his
home on Irishtown Road, Kensington.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Jaye McQuillin; son,
John D. (Jack), Jr. (Ann), all of Amherst; granddaughter Melodie
(Blaine) Peacock, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; grandsons, Michael
Keddy, Moncton; Matthew (Melissa) Keddy, Amherst; Joshua Ceasor,
Gatineau, Quebec; step-granddaughter, Erika (Drew) Lewis, Truro; and
great-grandchildren, Carter, Ava, Matthew, Austin, Joshua and
Annabelle.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Davison
Funeral Home, Kensington. A celebration of life will be held on
Wednesday, September 27 from 3 to 6 pm at the Air Force Club, Havelock
St., Amherst, with internment at a later date.
If friends wish, donations may be made to the Prince County
Hospital Foundation, Summerside, the Canadian Cancer Society or
charity of choice.
