1962-2017
After a courageous battle with cancer, John D. F. Akerley
passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 2, 2017,
surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Saint John
on June 25, 1962 to the late Rev. Canon George Akerley and the late
Audrey Claire (Smyth) Akerley.
John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He
also loved to cook. John was an avid Habs
fan.
John is survived by his wife, Terri Lynn Magee-Akerley of
Saint John; daughters, Stephanie Walsh (Bill) of Greencourt, AB, Amy
Walsh (Kate) of Mayerthorpe, AB, Haillea Akerley and Gabriellia
Akerley both of Saint John, NB; son, Andrew Magee-Dempsey of Saint
John and grandson, Lance Walsh; sisters, Margaret Munn (Neil) of
French Village, NB, Suzanne Valiant (Ed) of Dartmouth, NS and Heather
Cowie (Mike) of Halifax, NS; nephews; Matthew and Chase; niece, Katie;
as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his
parents, John was also predeceased by his brother,
Bruce.
Special thanks to Dr. Corscadden for his care and generosity
to John.
Arrangements are under the care of
Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111
Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, May 5,
2017 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, which will be immediately followed by the
funeral service at 2:00 PM, all from Brenan’s
Chapel. Directly following the service, interment will take
place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
For those who wish, donations may be made to the SJRH
Oncology Department c/o SJRH Foundation, Bobby’s Hospice or
a charity of the donor’s choice.
