Obituary of Joan Brown
Brown, Joan Isobel (Mason)
On Wednesday evening, November 22, 2017, Joan passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Joan has now joined her husband Clare Brown (2001), daughter Cynthia Pinsonneault (1981), and Grandson Kirk (1981).
Predeceased by daughter-in-law Marg Brown, son-in-law Brian Haskell and by her parents Charles and Mabel Mason, and brothers Donald and Neil Mason.
Joan is survived by her children Gary Brown (Vicki), Pam Haskell, Debbie Slade (Fred), Barry Brown (Sarah), and Jeff Brown (Fran).
Grandmother to twelve grandchildren, 20 great grand-children, and one great-great-grandchild.
As she loved her family, she loved to cheer them on at their sports games, even traveling out of town for them. Joan loved her crafts – needlepoint and sewing – often making clothes for her grandchildren. Her love of gardening was evident in her many rose gardens.
Joan was spirited and hard working as she picked tomatoes on her family farm for many a summer. She kept busy by owning a restaurant in Merlin, working as a waitress at Venus de Milo – all while having six kids.
Upon Clare’s retirement they went on many cruises and traveled to Hawaii, Australia, Alaska, and also to Egypt to visit the resting place of her brother Neil who died while serving in the military there. Joan and Clare’s favourite place to visit was New Zealand.
Our heartfelt thanks to the fifth floor staff at Riverview Gardens, whose compassion and care for Joan was much appreciated.
As per Joan’s wishes, there will be no visitation, with a private family service held at the graveside in Merlin Cemetery.
